Despite buying all the possible insurance cover, they demanded a deposit of R12,000 for a 3-day rental. This deposit was not released until 2 weeks after returning the car. On top of that, they immediately took out an additional R90 a day after returning it without saying a word. After inquiring, this turned out to be for fuel even though we filled up the car at the airport minutes before returning it. We have sent a receipt of the fuel and emailed and called several times, but they simply ghost us. Very unpleasant experience. These guys are crooks, best steer clear of them. Edit: "Kindly note that the branch has charged you for fuel as per our fuel policy. As per our current policy all vehicles are sent for refueling even if they are returned with the gauge on 8/8 to ensure that they are completely full." I'm just going to leave this here, I think it tells you all you need to know.
Recently rented a car form Thrifty King Shaka for 4 days. My check in for the collection of the car was a absolute breeze. upon receiving the car the next day on my way out I had to leave the car idling for 10 min as there was no power. No a big issue. When returning the car the outgoing inspection was done and the person helping me told me "O NO THERE IS SRATCHES ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR" as I mention and showed him it was a little bit of dirt he told me to get on my knees and clean it otherwise I Will be charge for it. Extremely arrogant and snotty. I took my inspection list to check in and asked to see a manager on duty as a paying customer should not be treated this way! The manager tells me if I can email customer service. So please tell me why do you have a manager on site. Not the first time I Have rented form Thrifty but the service I Have experienced this time was disgusting. Sorry Guys but you lost a returning customer. I will never used them again. Stay away form this particular franchise. Have been warned by multiple people that the agent when returning the car that they hint for bribe for dirt and scratches on the car to let it slide. Some serious investigating needs to be done esp if it comes form more than one person. But mostly is this how customers are being treated???
The car and ground staff were good. However the have deducted a deposit of R8000 off my credit card and still haven't refunded me 3 weeks later. When I try contacting them they tell me to take it up with the bank?
I have had a terrible, upsetting and disappointing experience at the Thrifty Lanseria. I booked a Mercedes Vitto to be fetched at Lanseria airport on Thursday 27th April 2023. The booking was made and paid for on the 28th January 2023. That is 3 months prior to the date of pick up. When we arrived at Thrifty, an employee by the name of Kese Mokhobo was at the front desk and attended to me. She was rude, impolite, she had a bad attitude and even walked away from us when asked about the whereabouts of the car we booked. The car was very very late, which I am not impressed with either, however the way this individual handled the situation was putrid. I encourage you to look at security cameras at the Lanseria Thrifty. The other two employees that were there tried to deal with the issues in a professional manner, and they also complained about her behavior, and said that we were not the first people to have a bad experience with Kese Mokhobo. Please can the necessary action be taken. This lady should be FIRED. Her customer skills and seems like her interaction with her co workers will drive people away from Thrifty. She did her best to anger the customer - a customer who did not pay for her bad attitude.
Terrible communication amongst one another as well as to the client. We arrived at the Capetown branch not knowing whether we have transportation or not. Thrifty car is very quick to get payment and take the deposit. But to return the deposit is a mission. It has been 11 working days since we returned the vehicle, and although the company says that it can take up to 14 working days, this is unacceptable considering the car was returned on time and in the same condition as we recieved it, full fuel tank and all. This TAT for return of deposit is pathetic. Is Thrifty gaining interest on my deposit??? I'm losing that interest and this is the only plausible explanation as to why the deposit refund is taking this long.
The most horrible experience. I paid the full rental up front. When I arrived to collect the car, I was told I had to pay an additional deposit of R15 000.00??? Nowhere during the online booking process was this hilighted!!!! I was told" pay up or cancel your booking and you will be refunded in 14 WORKING DAYS." When you arrive in a foreign city and this happens to you, they hold a gun to your head. I fortunately had the R15k and paid up. I was then informed that when the car is returned, and there is no damage, etc, I will be refunded MY R15k in 14 WORKING DAYS!!! WHO GETS THE INTEREST ON MY MONEY!!! I was the third person having this awful nightmare experience. Do Thrifty thrives understand the emotional pressure they place on you when they've executed their highway robery. The whole time, I was driving I was calculating how much it would cost me per kilometer if someone scratched the car!!! I normally use Europe Car Hire but thought I'd give Thrifty Highwar Robbers a test!! They failed dismally!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
Outstanding service. They always go the extra mile. I've booked with thrifty a few times and have never had an issue. Thanks guys!
They charged us 2500 R for a tiny scratch on the bumper, even after we paid for the Super waiver. Do not rent with them, you will have to pay the entire deposit for any tiny damage left on the car.
Good quick service and great rates especially when taking super cover it reduces the deposit which makes the vehicles far more affordable than their competitors.
Used the service few times in the past and had good experience, but last time we used it me my partner faced issues after care service after returning the rental has not been good at all from unnecessary deduction on our credit card to delay in our refund
