I recently rented a vehicle down at the coast. The booking was done through an affiliated online system - which was fairly painless, but come collection, I had some troubles. Europecar, on behalf of Tempest, then promptly resolved that for me and off we went. I was however extremely disappointed by the Europecar returns process officer who arrogantly told me that te car was so dirty that he has to send it for a valet. The only “dirt” in or on that car was literally a bit of beach sand and dust where the kids feet touched the back of the seats and on the floor. I did not even let my kids drink a sip of water in it during our holiday, let alone let it get so dirty that I have to get it valeted. I explained it to him and he arrogantly answered: “Ma’am if you have a problem I will call my supervisor.” So I asked him to call him. They spoke in a language I don’t understand and then the Supervisor, clearly taking the officer’s side before even seeing the vehicle, also rudely told me that the car has to go for a valet. No greeting. No customer service skills. Nothing. I ripped out a wet wipe and wiped the dust off to prove to them that they are taking me for a ride. The dust obviously wiped right off. That officer stood there and arrogantly told me to wipe there and there too - deliberately trying to upset me while my small kids sit, impatiently, on the baggage trolley waiting for these men to finish up. I eventually told them to send the car for a normal car wash and to stop trying to scam people with their nonsense and left highly disgusted and angered. But it also did not end there… When my remittance advice from Tempest came, I was charged an extra day. Upon investigation I was told it was because I arrived early. The booking was for 11:30 and I was there at 7:30… A mere four hours earlier. Apparently their policy is to then charge a full day’s rental, doesn’t matter that I returned the vehicle two hours earlier, I just get charged a full day extra. The call operator was rude about this too: annoyed that I would have the audacity to even query it. The only place that this is “communicated” is in the fine print. The person I collected the vehicle from could’ve warned me, but they chose to keep quiet, just another scam! The experience was enough for me that I would never recommend or use Tempest or Europecar again.
Cheaters! 1. Car was completly wet in the cabin and back and was already smelling terrible. 2. Car was wet as well in the back. Had the car for less than 48 hours. At the return the car was signed off as not damaged. After that they charged a damage at the cubby which i never used and impossibly could have damaged anyhow. Never Tempest again!!!
My rental was OK, good car and good service. However still waiting from march 8 2023 the 7,400.00 ZAR to be returned, as the car was in perfect shape as agreed upon parties at car retourn. After one month the $$ are returned OK : Still missing the invoice, hope to get this soon. Hope to close on this as well.
Devious company! We rented a car at King Shaka on the 29th April for 3 days and returned it with non issues, no accidents, nothing. Our only mistake was rushing to board a flight back to Cape Town which we ended up missing in anyway, as I was busy at ticket sales trying to book the next flight I got call from Tempest informing me that the driver door is damaged, we were so shocked and told them that its definitely a wrong car that they are inspecting and we went back to see the car and couldn't believe what we saw, a damaged door but there was no dent or scratch on it and they said we caused it when we know for a fact that we didn't !!! These people are devious! I have not received a peny of my deposit even today!!
Warning Appalling service!!! I am an owner of a Worldwide Travel company, Jacky Worldwide.com and am affiliated with Car Trawler. My client ordered a car direct off my website and paid in full. Dates 8th to 24th March 2022. Client and I received written confirmation on 4 March from Car Trawler to confirm the order. My client flew in from Dubai to OR Tambo on 8th March and was told that there were NO CARS and that the travel agent had cancelled the booking on the 1st March which was a lie. I have been battling with Car Trawler and Tempest for a week with no joy. Just told to wait 20 days. My client has ordered a car every year from my website for 7 years without a hitch. I am so embarrassed and although my client has been understanding I doubt he will use me again. Extremely disappointed and upset with Car Trawler and Tempest. Don't use them again!!!!
No issues whatsoever. I am highly sceptical of all car hire companies and their sometimes devious practices. However I was pleasantly surprised to have not even one tiny complaint. The service was good, the vehicle was clean and in good shape. Car return was easy and quick. And deposit back into my credit card a few days later. Will definitely be using them again! Keep up the good work :
Their offices are closed, only to see the notice to refer us to other car rental next door. The consultant didn't understand my order, has to ask several time for clarity. Very disappointing ACCOUNT NO. 10013978 as requested
Picked up a car late at night and was made to do an “inspection” in very bad lighting. Everyone was happy to sign off. When I return the car, I had nearly stopped when a dent was pointed out to me that I must have made. I was forced to sign an incident report to investigate the matter. Bottom line is that I am going to be liable for something that might have been there or not before I took the car. No staff were on duty when I took the car, systems were offline, the lady behind the desk had to show us to the car in the dark. As someone who rents monthly from various agencies I didn’t feel like a customer. I felt like the accused. No doubt I will be charged an exorbitant amount of money to fix a dent that I did not cause. Very disappointed. I guess there is a reason why they claim to be cheap in their marketing.
Tempest Car Hire King Shaka was a pleasure to use. One of the few car hire companies that offer unlimited kms just for a day of car hire. I had a good experience with pick up, return and my deposit was refunded within reasonable time. Looking forward to using their services again.
